SUMMARY:Coloniality\, Anti-Blackness\, and White Supremacy
DESCRIPTION:Join us for AAJIL’s Foundations\, the second leg of our Core Community Racial Justice Trainings\, facilitated by AAJIL founder and board member; Dr. Sandra So Hee Chi Kim. These sessions focus on aspects of systemic racism that ideologies of whiteness strategically invisibilize: the function of Asian racializations and oppressions within a white-dominant societal complex built upon anti-Indigenous and anti-Black infrastructures.  \nThis third and final session will be VIRTUAL only via Zoom. \nThis session unpacks the connections between global histories of settler colonialism\, militarization\, and capitalism with anti-Blackness and white supremacy. \nThese 3 sessions comprise the Foundations level of AAJIL’s Core Community Racial Justice Trainings. The third and final level of AAJIL’s Core Community Racial Justice Trainings will be Formations.

SUMMARY:China Institute Centennial Celebration: SummerStage Concert
DESCRIPTION: \n\n\n\n\nAugust 2 @ 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm\n\n\n\n\nDoors Open: 6:00 PM\n\n\nCentral Park\n\n\nRumsey Playfield\, New York\, NY\, 10021\n\n\nAll Ages\n\n\n\nFree \n\n\n\n\nFor a century\, China Institute of America has been dedicated to deepening the world’s understanding of China. In celebration of their Centennial\, SummerStage brings two takes on the future sounds of Chinese pop to Central Park. The K-pop boy band NCT is so massive that it’s become its own ecosystem\, spinning off members into their own sub-groups that establish their own voice. WayV are the fourth such to spin off—and its first China-based collective—recording pop songs that fuse hip-hop and dance with R&B-stylized vocals sung in Mandarin since their 2019 debut EP The Vision. They’re joined by THE EITHER\, formed in New York in 2017. Their sound — Post-Orientalism — rebuilds Eastern elements for today\, blending electrified traditional instruments\, Chinese opera-inspired vocals\, progressive rock energy\, and compositions with a strong Eastern melodic identity into a bold\, future-facing performance. \n The Member RSVP Deadline for WayV (8/2) is Friday\, 7/31 @ 6pm. Memberships bought the day of a show do not guarantee entry — RSVP confirmation required.\n  \nEntry FAQ for WayV / The Either / Chopstix\n  \nWill there be a ticketed/wristbanding system for entry?\nAs with all SummerStage free events\, entry will be first-come first-serve. At 4:00 PM\, if you have a wristband\, you are permitted to come back and line up outside the venue for entry. Wristbands guarantee entry for the first hour of doors 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM\, after which the venue will open for any remaining attendees if space permits. \nA general admission line for entry will also be available at the venue starting at 4:00PM for those without wristbands\, first-come\, first-served.
