Tour of Chinatown, Manhattan:
Exploring Its Multi-ethnic Origins
and Current Development

The Asian American  / Asian Research Institute (AAARI) will lead a 90-minute walking tour of Manhattan's Chinatown, tracing the neighborhood's historical multi-ethnic past  and encouraging the exploration and recording of the new emerging Chinatown. The tour will begin outside of the Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA), a landmark of Chinatown's past, present and future, and will feature ten sites that highlight rarely seen emblems of the endurance and creativity of the minorities who have created their niche in this particular corner of New York City, as well recent vibrant changes to the area.

Coordinator/Guide
Carol Huang, Ph.D.,
is a historian who has worked as a crime reporter for Central Daily and Chinese Language Newspaper in the 1980s with Chinatown as her main beat. She is also Board Secretary of the Asian American / Asian Research Institute-CUNY.

Research Assistants/Guides
Liming Wu, a fourth generation Chinese American, is a Research Intern at the Asian American / Asian Research Institute-CUNY, helping to compile a list of notable Asian Americans for the Institute's Asian American History project. She graduated from Bard College with a BA degree in Asian Studies.

Sihan Wu, a fourth generation Chinese American, is a Research Intern at the Asian American / Asian Research Institute-CUNY, helping to create a comprehensive Asian American history timeline for the Institute's Asian American History project. He graduated from Hendrix College with a BA degree in International Relations.
