Alvin Eng is
playwright,
performer and
adjunct
Professor of
Creative Writing
on the English
Department
faculties of
John Jay, BMCC
and Fordham. He
will be reading
from “THE LAST
EMPEROR of
FLUSHING'S FINAL
MANIFESTO––An
Imperial Memoir
in Queens
English”––the
prose adaptation
of his acclaimed
memoir
monologues, The
Flushing Cycle
and The Last
Emperor of
Flushing.

The Flushing
Cycle was
featured in a
Museum of The
Chinese in the
Americas
exhibition and
excerpts were
published in
Performing Arts
Journal (MIT
Press). The Last
Emperor of
Flushing was
honored with a
grant from the
Urban Artists
Initiative, and
the title
character
persona inspired
a commentary on
NPR’s All Things
Considered. Eng
has performed
these pieces at
NYC venues such
as Urban Stages,
Pan Asian
Repertory
Theatre, Dixon
Place,
Immigrants
Theatre Project
and Queens
Theatre in the
Park’s 1st
Annual NYC Asian
Cultural
Festival.
